Frequently Asked Questions about the urinalysis and Urine Test Strips

Yes, if you prefer so. Test pads (11 pads for 11 analytes) are firmly attached to the test strip, so urine flow will not wash them.

Several clinical studies confirmed test strips’ accuracy and reliability at urine analyses.

In the table below is the accuracy of these urine test strips compared to device reading. In the “Reading agreement” column is an agreement between layperson visual reading of the results and professionals.

Leukocytes (LEU)97.6%100%

Yes, these are the same urine test strips as doctors use. Usually, in doctors’ offices or laboratories, they do not interpret results visually but use special reading devices instead.

Nevertheless, the correlation between the visually read results and those scanned with devices is excellent (please see the table under the question above).

Sure, you can. A lot of parents use urine test strips to monitor specific analytes in children urine. But please discuss the results with a doctor before making any health-related decisions.

Best storage conditions are room temperature, dry (low humidity) and dark places.

Once opened, you must keep the test strips in the original container to ensure stability.

Nevertheless, test strips are stable for three months after you open the container.

Tested analytes with the Urine Test Strips

Analytes tested with the Reactif Urine Test Strips cover several health conditions such as urinary tract infection, kidneys and liver function and diseases, fat metabolism, diabetes and others.

Proteins in urine (proteinuria) are an early sign of kidney damage.

Leukocytes in urine indicate inflammation in the urinary tract or kidneys.

Nitrite in urine indicate the presence of bacteria in the urine.

High concentration of vitamin C in urine affects the accuracy of the results; therefore, it is a vital analyte at the urine analysis

Glucose in urine (glucosuria) can be due to several conditions such as diabetes, increased blood glucose concentrations, hormonal disorders, liver disease, medications, pregnancy.

Bilirubin in urine indicates liver damage or disease, such as hepatitis, for example.

Urobilinogen in urine may indicate different conditions such as viral hepatitis, cirrhosis, liver damage due to drugs or toxic substance, etc.

Increased ketones in urine indicate fat metabolism and are often the case of low carb diets.

Specific gravity indicates how concentrated urine is and can relate to body hydration level.

Blood in the urine (hematuria) can occur due to a vast number of reasons. If the blood is present in the urine, you should consult a doctor to find the cause.
Monitoring urine pH level can help to maintain normal urine pH.

Professional urinalysis in the comfort of your home.

Testing procedure

Testing takes approximately 10 seconds. Then you need to wait for the result.

  1. Collect urine. You can urinate directly on a test strip (1-2 seconds) or collect urine in a cup.
  2. Deep test strip in the urine for 1-2 seconds.
  3. Place the test strip on a paper towel and leave it still for the result.

Interpretation of the results

You read results by comparing the colour of a reagent pad with the shade on a colour card.

You should read the result for each tested parameter at a particular time after you put the test strip in contact with the urine, from 30 to 120 seconds.

If the values are outside the normal range, you should repeat testing with a new test the next day. If the values are still abnormal, you should consult a doctor.
