Which test for a sore throat, a fever, a tick bite or an allergy?
- Strep A Home Test Shows whether group A streptococcus bacteria are the cause of a sore throat. A throat swab, result in 5 to 10 minutes.
- C-Reactive Protein (CRP) Home Test Shows whether there is inflammation or an infection in your body, and how strong it is. A drop of blood from the fingertip, result in 5 minutes.
- Lyme Disease Home Test Shows whether your body has formed antibodies to Borrelia after a tick bite. A drop of blood from the fingertip, result in 10 minutes.
- Allergy Home Test Shows whether your total IgE is raised, a sign that an allergy is likely. A drop of blood from the fingertip, result in 10 minutes.
What to do with the result
A positive Strep A or Lyme result, or a raised CRP, is a reason to see your doctor soon; only a doctor can decide whether an antibiotic is needed. A raised allergy result tells you that an allergy is likely, not what you are allergic to; an allergy specialist can find the cause.
How these self-tests work
Each kit contains everything you need except a timer. You take the sample, apply it to the test device and read the lines after the time stated in the instructions. The tests are CE-marked in-vitro diagnostic medical devices for self-testing, made in France and certified by notified body 0483. A self-test is a screening test: it tells you whether a value is above or below a threshold, while a laboratory measures the exact number.
Common questions
How soon after a tick bite can I test for Lyme disease?
The body needs some weeks to form the antibodies the test detects, so a test done too early can be negative. If you have a spreading red rash or other symptoms after a tick bite, see a doctor without waiting for a test.
Can the CRP test tell a viral from a bacterial infection?
It shows how strong the inflammation is, in four ranges. Lower values are more typical of viral infections and higher values of bacterial ones. It supports the decision; it does not replace a doctor.
How accurate are these tests?
In the evaluation studies, agreement with laboratory methods ranged from 89 % for the Lyme test to 99 % for the CRP test. The figure for each test is on its product page.
How quickly will I have the test?
Orders placed before 12:00 on a working day leave the same day, in discreet packaging with no indication of the contents. You receive the tracking number by e-mail.
